DeskHappy Makes A Dull Workday Better

How many of us actually take breaks anymore, unless we run outside for a smoke or a quick bite to eat? Unfortunately most people don't stop to relax during the day, and most don't move from their seats unless they have to go to a meeting. DeskHappy wants to change that. The idea is simple: DeskHappy presents you with a short video each day that shows a new way to get a little exercise while sitting at your desk; or it'll suggest that you get up and walk around, take a real break, or stretch your legs during the workday. They're easy to do and take only a few moments. Believe me, your inbox can wait.

If you're like me, most of your job involves sitting in front of a computer for extended periods of time. Unfortunately, that also means you're not getting any exercise, your posture is getting worse, and you probably go home with a sore back every night. DeskHappy wants to help with ways to help keep you flexible, active, and energized during your workday.

The service puts a up a new video each day with a quick and easy exercise that you can do while sitting at your desk, or a suggestion to get up and walk around your desk for a few minutes. The goal of the exercises isn't to make you sweat. The exercises at DeskHappy are designed to give you a chance to stretch your arms and legs and relieve the tension and stress that builds up over the course of the day.

The videos are quick and illustrate how to do the exercise. You can follow along in your seat or just take a tip from the video and do the exercise later. If you want a reminder that it's time for a DeskHappy, you can sign up for a free account at the site, and get e-mail notifications periodically through the day to take a quick break and do the daily exercise. The service will notify you in the morning, midday, early or late afternoons, or evenings.

DeskHappy is pretty simple, but the idea is fantastic. The service also plans to add more videos and tips to make the day a little more relaxing in the future. I wish I could count how many days I go home with a sore back or tight shoulders, all because I sat hunched over a laptop screen all day or sitting in uncomfortable conference room chairs. I told DeskHappy to remind me to take a break and do a little exercise in the midday and the late afternoon, and hopefully I'll stick to it.
