Google's mapping programs are a procrastinator's dream. I have definitely wasted a good amount of time whizzing around Google Earth and trying to spot strange occurrences via Street View. It appears that my proud history is destined to continue with the Tuesday introduction of a Google Maps editing function.
Starting today, users signed into their Google accounts can move the green arrows that point to a specific address so that they more accurately reflect where that home or business is actually located. Eventually users will also be able to edit business information and add points of interest, according to Google.
For those who get the bright idea to move undesirable building locators to the middle of the Hudson River, changes will be reviewed by moderators and edited entries will have the option to "show original" link.
"If it's in the wrong place, just move it to the right one," Seth LaForge, a software engineer with Google Maps, wrote in a blog post.
I've already busied myself moving the green arrows for my apartment building and the PC Mag offices. More fun with mapping to come, I'm sure.
