We've all seen the studies that say that most Americans couldn't tell you where their state is on a map, and can't find the foreign countries in the news. Remember Miss Teen South Carolina's thoughts on the subject? Travel and tourism site Travelpod has produced How Well Do You Know Your World, a flash geography game designed for Facebook users (although it's playable here, without using Facebook).
How Well Do You Know Your World will help you get acquainted with the world around you, and make sure you're not one of those poor folks who can't find Alberta on a map if your life depended on it.
The game itself is simple enough. You're presented with a world map, and asked to locate and click on a specific city. The game will tell you what city to click on, and then change the cursor to crosshairs so you can click accurately. You're judged on accuracy and speed, so you earn more points the faster you click on the map.
The scoring system is generous and the map is large, so if you're a hundred miles or so away from Copenhagen you'll still get plenty of points. The game starts with major world cities like Los Angeles and London, and gets progressively more difficult. The next couple of levels feature national capitals, historic cities, and landmarks, and there are 12 levels overall. You'll need a certain number of points to progress to each subsequent next level, so pay attention to your score.
How Well Do You Know Your World is a fun and educational game, and Facebook users can add the app to their profiles and embed it so their friends can play it, as well. Personally, I just play the flash game because I don't spend much time on Facebook. I've been playing for a while and I can't seem to get past level 10.
