This past weekend, author and screenwriter Neil Gaiman ("Sandman," Stardust) joined the Brooklyn crew of Electric Sheep Company in Second Life to talk about his new film, Beowulf. The film features a lot of computer-graphics action, including some reportedly racy CG of Angelina Jolie. Jolie admitted to TransWorldNews that seeing herself in computer-graphic form was a little embarrassing: "I was a little shy," she says. "I was really surprised that I felt that exposed." She isn't the only character who gets blended in a mix of real life and CG scenes; Anthony Hopkins and Ray Winstone also get their share in the action.
Perhaps because of the heavy CG element in the movie, Second Life creators developed Beowulf Island in the virtual world's metaverse grid (follow this link to the Beowulf [SLURL] portal if you are running SL), where fans can play in rolling fog and torch-lit castle holds, or make like the pros and head straight for the free T-shirt stations. Snazzy and somehow functional, the virtual-world movie souvenir is born.
