How to tell if you have an updated Gmail client? A little notification in the top nav bar that you now can enable Google Group Chat.
This little handy app creates a chat room of a sort, that you can invite buddies to hang out and socialize in. There's also a few Google-ish smilies, but they're nothing to write home about.
The new Google Group chat is also in the Group Chat widget, but I'm not entirely sure if the two interoperate. In any event, it's a handy little tool to plan a group outing or dinner. Just be sure to go back to the old one-on-one chat if you want to warn Jim that Steve's new girlfriend is Jim's ex-girlfriend, Lisa. Or something like that.
